While Twitter has opened the door to many folks in China, one of my favorite people there is @sioksiok. For starters, following Siok broadened my experience and enjoyment of the 2008 Beijing Olympics; especially with her documentary, “Boomtown Beijing.” As well, many of the her links to what she’s reading have been enlightening as well. In particiular, her link to Clive Thompson's New York Times article, "Brave New World of Digital Intimacy” was a real eye opener. One of the key ideas in the piece was how social media generates an ambient awareness of others – which in the long run can build and enrich relationships. It was a formative read for me and helped me get more out of my Twitter experience.
