This idea came to us through Andrew Lih @fuzheado.  Here is his original tweet sent to @twittamentary:

@twittamentary Would be interesting to do a spot on "last tweets" - the accounts of the deceased. DJ AM's final one rather chilling

DJ AM, one of the best known DJs in the world, was found dead in his apartment on August 28th 2009.  The tragic and early death of DJ AM, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, have drawn an outpouring of grief from his fans and friends and the following of his Twitter account continues to grow despite it being unlikely to be updated again.

"New York, new York! Big city of dreams, but everything in new york, ain't always what it seems. "

Does a segment on Last Tweets have a place in a documentary about Twitter? What issues should such as segment explore.  Any other haunting last tweets on Twitter that you remember?

I think it is a little sad... But DJ AM's last tweet is really heart-breaking... New York seems deceptively real, mesmerizingly beautiful and dangerously untouchable in his tweet.

Social Media & the After Life

When we sign up for our various social media accounts -- Facebook, Twitter, Friendfeed and a zillion others, we don't often think about what happens after we die.  Will our still 'alive' social media accounts continue to haunt our loved ones for a long time after we are gone from this earth?  Should we all leave our social media ids and passwords in our will with clear instructions on what to do after we pass on?

Intriguing questions...
